For their Hydrostatic Regenerative Braking system (HRB) the Rexroth facility in Elchingen was awarded the title "Landmark in the Land of Ideas." The "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" competition under the auspices of Germany's Federal President Horst Köhler recognizes innovative as well as future-directed ideas. With the HRB, which converts braking energy into drive energy, commercial vehicles and mobile equipment achieve fuel savings of up to 25 percent while reducing CO2 emissions correspondingly. Especially vehicles with very short start and stop intervals such as city buses, waste collection vehicles or fork lifts profit from this simple, reliable and economical solution, which is scheduled for series production in the second half of this year.
In a field trial with the Berlin Department of Sanitation a waste collection truck is currently proving its everyday practicality. It is achieving the calculated savings while demonstrating high reliability. The system operates over the entire temperature spectrum, from summer heat to bitter freezing, and at a consistently high level of efficiency. With this system Rexroth offers vehicle manufacturers and operators a verifiably production-ready and reliable system. The company is concurrently addressing the US market with similar field trials scheduled in New York and Los Angeles.
The series of events "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" is sponsored jointly by the "Germany – Land of Ideas" initiative and the Deutsche Bank. The high energy efficiency of the hydraulic hybrid drive as well as its environmental friendliness by reducing CO2 emissions were key criteria in the jury’s decision. As a "Selected Landmark" Rexroth will represent the "Land of Ideas" in 2009 and embody Germany’s joy in innovation.
