Automotive-oriented lean manufacturing and assembly expo provides hands-on demonstrations for lean production cells, new tools and improved automation practices

(Madison Heights, MI – www.boschrexroth-us.com) Automotive manufacturing engineers and plant operators participated in multiple lean manufacturing and assembly technology demonstrations at a two-day expo on September 11 and 12, hosted by Bosch Rexroth and MICCO.

The 2007 Lean Manufacturing and Assembly Technology Expo gave attendees a hands-on opportunity to learn and apply automated assembly systems and techniques while utilizing a “lean” manufacturing strategy for automotive and automotive parts production.

The expo was held at MICCO’s Madison Heights headquarters, where multiple displays, workshops and how-to discussions helped participants learn how to effectively integrate automation technology into lean manufacturing environments.

“Both MICCO and Bosch Rexroth are committed to helping the automotive industry be more cost-effective and competitive,” stated Tom Taylor, Bosch Rexroth director of automotive sales. “We organized this expo to help the industry apply workflow and assembly technologies and techniques that are proven to reduce waste and increase productivity.”

Expo highlights included working demonstrations of modular assembly conveyors, and use of Rexroth Manual Production System to illustrate how single-piece workflow, along with single-minute exchange of parts, can make automotive component assembly more productive.

Attendees also participated in a lean production cell demonstration where they used lean production techniques to build their very own car… a die-cast model car, that is.

Sponsors for the event include Bosch Rexroth Linear Motion and Assembly Technologies, MICCO, PTS Power Tools & Supply, and Morrell, Inc.

Founded in 1991, MICCO (Modular Industrial Components Co.) is a division of Kidder Associates, and specializes in integrating aluminum structure framing, ergonomic workstations, and flexible assembly and belt-driven conveyor systems.
