Double nuts are a traditional example of preloaded ball nuts with two-point contact, which ensures very smooth operation even with very high preloads. The preload is obtained by tensioning the two halves of the double nut against each other on the screw. Double nuts in the standard series are available with mounting dimensions per DIN 69051 Part 5 or with Rexroth standard mounting dimensions and are relatively expensive due to their two-piece design. They will also typically will carry a longer lead-time than the more popular single ball nuts.
